Aon switchChallenge: how the cut-e deductive reasoning test works
By the PilotinQ editorial teamUpdated 12 Oct 2026
SHORT ANSWER

switchChallenge is Aon's 6-minute deductive reasoning test: you find the 4-digit code that turns a row of shapes into the output shown.12

What does switchChallenge measure?

Aon lists the test as Deductive Reasoning (switchChallenge), with 6 minutes to complete. It measures your ability to apply given rules to logical problems in one or more steps. Aon describes the task as identifying the right 4-digit number sequences to receive the right result.12

What does a switchChallenge question look like?

Each question has three elements: an input, a code and an output. The input is a row of shapes, and you choose the 4-digit code that changes the input into the output. The code describes where each shape moves: 1-2-3-4 leaves the row unchanged, and 1-3-2-4 swaps the second and third shapes.2

Does switchChallenge get harder?

There is no set number of questions: the system creates a new question every time you complete one. The test may get more difficult as you progress. In harder questions the codes are spread over several rows, and the output of the first code becomes the input for the next.2

How is switchChallenge scored?

The aim is to get as many questions right as possible in the time. For Aon's performance tests, points are usually added for each correct answer and deducted for every incorrect answer. So a wrong guess can lower your score: Aon advises answering quickly but carefully.12

How can you practise for switchChallenge?

Before the real test you get instructions and a practice task that you can repeat as many times as you like. Aon publishes a practice document with 5 tasks plus solutions and rationale. Aon suggests trying the tasks without looking at the solutions first and writing your answers down. A good drill is to work out what output each wrong code would have produced. Take the real test in a quiet place with your phone switched off.12
