What is Jet2FlightPath?

Jet2FlightPath is an ab-initio flying training programme that provides fully funded training to become a commercial airline pilot. Successful candidates will be invited to take their place on a fully funded 18-month Airline Transport Pilot Licence training course. The programme aims to boost social mobility and promote diversity within the pilot community. For 2026, Jet2 said it was giving at least 60 aspiring pilots the opportunity.126

Key requirements listed by Jet2

You need the full and unrestricted right to work in the UK. For the 2026 intake, applicants had to be at least 17 years old at the time of application and turn 18 by 1 August 2026. You need a minimum of five GCSEs at grade C/4 or higher, including Mathematics and a Science subject, or equivalent qualifications. You must hold, or be eligible for, a Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) Class 1 Medical Certificate. You need a valid passport with at least 12 months’ validity remaining and no travel restrictions. Jet2 lists further requirements on its own site.12

What does the training cost and what does Jet2 fund?

There are no fees to pay for your training, as Jet2FlightPath is a fully funded programme. Accommodation is provided by the training provider, and depending on the training school you receive meals and/or a living allowance, though a salary is not payable during training. The airline also funds your initial Class 1 medical, excluding costs resulting from additional investigations required following an adverse test result, and reimburses all subsequent annual renewals. Because of the significant financial contribution, you must sign a Training Agreement for the training and living allowance. If you are offered employment, you will be expected to stay for 5 years post-employment start date and agree to make a contribution towards some of the training costs and living allowance, which is repayable if your employment terminates before the end of 5 years under certain circumstances.52

What does the 18-month training involve?

The 18-month course covers theoretical knowledge instruction with 13 different exams, single-engine flight training, and multi-engine and instrument flight training. You will also complete Advanced Upset Prevention and Recovery Training and an Airline Pilot Standard Multi-Crew Cooperation course. Trainees also participate in Discovery360, an immersive business exploration programme that provides insight into the airline operation and culture. Training takes place in the UK, Spain, the USA, or a combination of locations, depending on your assigned training school. You can expect to spend a minimum of 6 months overseas, depending on your assigned training school.135

Who are the three training partners?

Jet2 partners with three training organisations to deliver the programme: FTEJerez, Leading Edge and Skyborne. FTEJerez operates a purpose-built aviation campus in Jerez, Spain. Leading Edge has a main campus at Oxford Airport and a fair-weather training base in Alhama, Spain. Skyborne has a UK training facility at Gloucestershire Airport and a fair-weather base at Vero Beach, Florida. You cannot select which training provider you train with, but Jet2 aims to match you with a suitable institution for your individual needs.461

How does the selection process work?

The Jet2FlightPath selection has six stages, and you must pass each stage to progress. You start by applying online with your CV and cover letter. You then complete the Arctic Shores cognitive assessment and a physics assessment, followed by Aon Pilot Assessments. Next, you record a one-way video interview, or meet Jet2 on MS Teams. Candidates then attend an in-person assessment day with pilots, training providers and the recruitment team. If successful, the final step is a training offer and completing your medical. The direct-entry route for licensed pilots has five stages and is described below.12

What happens after training?

Upon completion of the Airline Transport Pilot Licence course, trainees are offered Type Rating training on either an Airbus or Boeing aircraft. Jet2 intends to offer a Second Officer position to all trainees who satisfactorily complete the training, but this offer is conditional. The offer is conditional upon key criteria such as a valid medical certificate, satisfactory references, the ability to obtain and maintain an Accreditation Check and satisfactory evidence of your right to work. Jet2 states there is no guarantee of a job at the end of the Programme. If successful, you will operate from one of the 14 UK bases, with your specific base depending on operational requirements.651

How do Jet2 and TUI differ in their seasonal aircraft basing at Newcastle?

Read moreShow less

Community members said Jet2 tends to keep based aircraft where they are for most of the year, which can lead to longer seasons so the aircraft remain productive. By contrast, TUI was described as moving aircraft between bases during winter and reducing services such as Greek routes from October at many locations. One view linked this to the package holiday model of TUI, where resort staffing and accommodation contracts make a short extra season less cost-effective even if some marginal airline revenue remains.
