What pay does Jet2 publish?
Jet2 publishes one pay figure: in its Jet2FlightPath FAQ in October 2026, it says the expected starting salary after completing the programme will be in excess of £35,000, with the exact amount set out in the offer letter and contract. On top of that, new Second Officers receive flying allowances, including sector pay and a flight duty subsistence allowance. For experienced pilots, the careers site refers to a great salary and benefits package but gives no amounts by rank.13
What does Jet2FlightPath cost, and what is the bond?
Jet2 describes Jet2FlightPath as fully funded, with 18 months of training at partner schools, after which trainees can look forward to joining as a Second Officer at one of its 14 UK bases. Its FAQ says the intention is to offer a Second Officer position to all trainees who complete the training satisfactorily, but that there is no guarantee of a job. Trainees are not employed by Jet2 during training and receive no salary, but accommodation is provided and there is a contribution towards living expenses. Pilots who are offered employment are expected to stay for 5 years and may have to repay some of the training costs and living allowance if they leave earlier in certain circumstances. Jet2NextGen, for trainees at other schools, offers a conditional offer of employment with a bonded Airbus or Boeing type rating.124
How do BALPA and Jet2 deal with pay?
In April 2019, Jet2 pilots in BALPA said they would be happy to keep pay the same that year and urged the company to review rostering, under the campaign 'Not a penny more, not an hour less'. In November 2022, BALPA and Jet2 met at Acas over the company's refusal to discuss scheduling and rostering with the union, without reaching agreement. In May 2023, BALPA said there was still little progress and called for proper collective agreements for pilots. In August 2020, Jet2 announced plans to make 102 pilots redundant across most of its bases.78910
What is the roster like?
Jet2 says most of its flying is a busy summer and a quieter winter, with the option of fixed periods off in winter. Annual leave is confirmed up to 6 months in advance, and Golden Requested Days Off can be booked up to 12 months ahead. The airline adds that career progression is not seniority-based.35
Which licence do you need?
Jet2 can only recruit pilots who hold a UK-issued licence, either a full UK ATPL or a UK CPL with ATPL exams passed. No formal contract is offered without a UK licence.6
