Simple Flying reports that KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has revealed the first routes for its brand-new Airbus A350-900s, which will fly from its hub at Amsterdam Schiphol. The SkyTeam member plans to put the type into service on 30 October 2026, which according to AeroRoutes is a week later than first planned. At the time the video was made, the first A350 service links Amsterdam with Toronto Pearson International in Canada. The A350 will initially fly the KL691/692 rotation five times a week, and as more aircraft are delivered this rises to a daily service from 3 March 2027. A month after the Toronto launch, on 30 November, KLM is due to start flying the A350 to Montreal, three times a week.
Two triangle routes to Tanzania
The video then turns to Africa, where KLM has big plans for its A350 fleet. Two separate triangle routes will serve the three main commercial airports in Tanzania from December. From 1 December the A350 flies twice a week from Amsterdam to Kilimanjaro, on to Dar es Salaam and then nonstop back to Amsterdam. Five days later, on 6 December, a weekly service starts from Amsterdam to Zanzibar and back via Dar es Salaam, and between 8 January and 19 February this route runs twice a week. Simple Flying calls it a mixed year for KLM as it brings its first A350 into service. In April the first aircraft entered final assembly in Toulouse, and it was unveiled two months later. By the time of its first flight it had also emerged that the type will have to enter service with business class sealed off because of regulatory hiccups.
The three-class cabin
Like most of the widebody twinjets in the KLM fleet, the A350-900 gets a three-class layout with 331 seats in total. The best seats on board are the 34 business class flatbeds in an angled 1-2-1 layout. For passengers who want more comfort without the business class price, there are 26 premium economy recliners in a 2-4-2 layout, with more seat pitch, width and recline and larger 16-inch screens. The other 271 seats are in economy, with 13.3-inch screens, and 33 of them are Economy Comfort seats with extra legroom. The video closes by asking viewers whether they expect to be on one of these flights soon.
