Portugal is selling up to 49.9% of TAP Air Portugal: up to 44.9% to a reference investor and up to 5% to employees, with the state keeping the majority. After IAG dropped out, Lufthansa and Air France-KLM delivered improved final offers on 30 September 2026. On 14 October 2026 the Council of Ministers chose Lufthansa, for a total of EUR 1.201 billion. Contracts still have to be signed, and completion depends on regulatory approval, including an EU competition review that could last until 2028.
