LATAM Airlines Brasil expects to have 12 Embraer E195-E2s by 31 December 2026. After the third aircraft, PS-LTC, was handed over on 4 November, nine are still to come, which means about one delivery every six days for the rest of the year, Aviacionline reported on 5 November1. The E195-E2 is a new aircraft type for the LATAM group, and the first commercial E2 flights are planned for 30 November, the start of a first phase covering 42 domestic routes2.
How many E195-E2s has LATAM ordered?
LATAM Airlines Group announced the order on 22 September 2025: 24 firm E195-E2s and 50 purchase options, up to 74 aircraft in total3. The group valued the 24 firm aircraft at about US$2.1 billion at list prices and said deliveries would start in the second half of 2026, first for LATAM Airlines Brasil3. The fleet plan in its third-quarter report shows 12 E2s at the end of 2026 and 24 at the end of 20272.
Jerome Cadier, chief executive of LATAM Airlines Brasil, told Reuters a few days after the order that the 136-seat E2 suited the distances and demand between Brazilian cities better than the larger Airbus A220, which LATAM had also considered4.
How many aircraft have been delivered?
Three. Embraer and LATAM marked the delivery of PS-LTA on 8 October, the first of 12 aircraft due by the end of 202656. LATAM said in its third-quarter report that it had received its first two E195-E2s in October2, and PS-LTC followed on 4 November1. These are the dates of the formal handovers. Aviacionline notes that the delivery flight of PS-LTA only took place on 19 October, and that the first two aircraft are flying without passengers to train crews1.
Embraer delivered 22 commercial jets in the third quarter, 11 E175s and 11 E2-family aircraft, and kept its 2026 target of 80 to 85 commercial deliveries7. Aviacionline calculates that LATAM's 12 aircraft would account for 36% to 43% of the deliveries Embraer still needs in the fourth quarter to reach that target1.
Which routes will the E195-E2 fly?
LATAM says the first phase, starting on 30 November, will use 14 aircraft on 42 domestic routes2. The first flights leave São Paulo-Guarulhos for Belo Horizonte (Confins), Cascavel, Palmas, Ribeirão Preto, Rio de Janeiro (Galeão), Uberaba, Uberlândia and Vitória1. Guarulhos to Cabo Frio starts on 3 December, and flights to Ji-Paraná and Juiz de Fora follow on 7 December. In February 2027 LATAM will add Porto Alegre to Belo Horizonte, Porto Alegre to Florianópolis and Guarulhos to Macaé1. By March 2027, as up to 14 aircraft join the fleet and four new bases open at Cabo Frio, Ji-Paraná, Macaé and Rondonópolis, LATAM will serve 67 destinations in Brazil1.
How is the cabin configured?
LATAM's E195-E2 has 136 seats in a 2-2 layout, compared with 144 on the Airbus A319, until now the smallest aircraft in its fleet16. Up to 20 seats can be sold as Premium Economy, depending on the configuration chosen for each flight, and the cabin has Wi-Fi and USB-C ports6.
How is LATAM hiring and training E2 pilots?
LATAM Airlines Brasil opened applications for E195-E2 captains and first officers on 15 December 2025, with a one-off hiring bonus and start dates planned from February 20268. Captains needed at least 5,000 hours in scheduled airline flying, at least 3,000 hours on jets and at least 500 hours as pilot in command, ICAO English level 4 or higher, a valid aeromedical certificate (CMA) and a Brazilian passport8. First officers needed 500 hours in total, a commercial pilot licence, an instrument rating plus either a multi-engine rating or a type rating, ICAO English level 4 or higher, a first-class CMA and a Brazilian passport8. At that point the airline had about 2,300 pilots8.
By April LATAM had hired 54 pilots for the type, 31 captains and 23 first officers, and said pilots already with the airline would also be trained on the E195-E2, with simulator sessions and supervised flights9. By the first delivery in October, 41 captains and 45 first officers had been trained, with about 1,500 simulator hours in total, and LATAM was installing its own E195-E2 simulator6. Embraer's E195-E2 demonstrator had been flying with LATAM since August for evaluation flights, evacuation exercises, crew training and certification procedures with Brazil's civil aviation authority, ANAC6.
Which type rating covers the E195-E2?
Transport Canada's operational evaluation report for the E-Jets, which applies Canadian rules, lists the E190-E2 and E195-E2 under the same E170 pilot type rating designation as the first-generation E170, E175 and E19010. A pilot moving from the E190 to the E190-E2 needs Level D differences training and Level B checking, with flight training in at least a no-motion Level C full flight simulator; from the E190-E2 to the E195-E2 it is Level A for both10. Transport Canada validated, by analysis, the E190-E2 evaluation that the FAA, EASA and ANAC had carried out in 201710.
For LATAM's own pilots the E2 is a new type. Until the first E2 arrived in October, the group's fleet was made up only of Airbus and Boeing aircraft2, and LATAM said its existing pilots would be trained for the E195-E2 rating with simulator sessions and supervised flights9. Our explainer on how a type rating works covers that process, and the LATAM Brasil profile and the LATAM Brasil pilot selection describe how the airline recruits.
