What is MCC?
MCC stands for Multi-Crew Cooperation and is a certificate required for a frozen ATPL. A frozen ATPL means that the ATPL theory (13 subjects) has been completed, together with a CPL with IR and ME and an MCC certificate, but there are not yet enough hours for a full ATPL. It is the standard entry licence for working as a first officer at an airline. The aim of an MCC course is to introduce you to the multi-crew concept, airline SOPs, checklists, speed and possibly FMS and EFIS.
After an integrated course you hold a CPL with multi-engine rating, instrument rating and MCC; together with the ATPL theory this is called a frozen ATPL. It 'unfreezes' into an ATPL once 1,500 hours in total have been reached and the requirements for multi-crew, instrument and night hours have been met. If you want to continue on the modular route after a PPL(A) towards multi-crew commercial flying, you need CPL-ME, IR-ME, Night VFR, MCC and ATPL theory to obtain a frozen ATPL. This can optionally be supplemented with UPRT and a type rating. These elements can be completed in almost any order, with mutual credits, but a logical sequence is Night, IR-SE, ME plus IR-ME, CPL-ME and finally MCC. Modular training means completing the elements at your own pace and in different places. From the CPL onwards, it becomes more relevant where you train, and where you do the final APS MCC module can open doors.12345
