How is pilot pay set at TUI fly Netherlands?
The collective agreement for TUI fly Netherlands pilots, signed by the airline and the Dutch pilots' union VNV, sets gross monthly salary as the sum of an age component (L), a service component (D), a rank component (F) and an experience component (E), multiplied by a multiplication factor (V). The age component in the December 2025 text is EUR 46 per year of age, with a minimum of EUR 1,135. The experience component is set when a pilot joins and then rises together with the service component. The agreement gives no salary in euros for any rank, only the formula and its components.1
What are the components for each rank?
In the December 2025 text, the rank component is EUR 1,746 for a Junior First Officer, EUR 2,245 for a First Officer, EUR 2,743 for a Senior First Officer and EUR 3,243 for a Captain. Each year of service adds EUR 91, EUR 137, EUR 182 or EUR 227 respectively, and each year of experience adds EUR 46 for a First Officer, EUR 69 for a Senior First Officer and EUR 114 for a Captain. A Junior First Officer has fewer than 500 jet hours; a Senior First Officer has at least 2400 jet hours or 36 months with the airline. A pilot hired without previous B737 experience has a rank component of EUR 227 until passing the line check. The sum of the four components is capped at EUR 11,561 a month for a Captain and EUR 7,771 for a (Senior) First Officer, excluding holiday pay.1
How did pay move under the 2024 to 2026 agreement?
The agreement ran from 1 February 2024 to 1 February 2026 and was signed in Rijswijk on 14 November 2024. The multiplication factor was 1.351682662, rose by 7% to 1.446300448 on 1 July 2024, and by 5% to 1.518615471 on 1 July 2025. From 1 February 2026 the factor automatically follows the increases in the collective agreement for the travel industry. The text also lists interim changes ratified on 3 December 2025, including changes to the pay policy and the pilot career scheme. An earlier agreement between the union and the airline, announced in August 2016, was to run until mid 2018 and traded more stable rosters and an occupational disability insurance for more flying hours per year.14
What else is in the package?
Pilots build up 8% holiday pay on their gross monthly salary, paid once a year with the May salary. The airline's profit sharing scheme applies to pilots who are proficient on their most recent proficiency check; the agreement gives no percentage. Pilots on mixed fleet flying receive a monthly allowance of one twelfth of their salary from the line check on the second type. Pensionable salary is twelve times the fixed gross monthly salary plus 8% holiday pay, with a pension age of 65. During sickness, the airline pays 100% of gross monthly salary in the first year and 70% in the second year, and the loss of licence insurance pays EUR 100,000 gross. In a December 2025 vacancy for type rated B737 first officers, the airline offered a permanent full time contract, a five weekly roster, loss of licence and occupational disability cover and a pension scheme, and said a salary indication is given during the interview phase.12
Do pilots pay for their type rating?
Type rating costs with aircraft training are fixed at EUR 40,000 for the Boeing 737 or 767 and EUR 50,000 for the Boeing 787; without aircraft training they are EUR 30,000 or EUR 40,000. These amounts are also the training bond, which runs off linearly over 4 years from the first commercial flight; for a EUR 40,000 bond that is EUR 10,000 a year. Pilots starting this training provide a bank guarantee at their own cost, while the command course and the operator conversion course carry no bond. A December 2025 vacancy for B787 first officers said the airline covers the type rating for pilots without one, with a four year bond.13
What does the roster look like?
For full time pilots the agreement sets a maximum of 900 hours flight time and 2000 hours duty per calendar year, and 100 hours flight time per 28 days; at 80% part time the annual flight time limit is 720 hours. Pilots are entitled to 35 calendar days of leave per year, because they can be rostered seven days a week. The home base is Schiphol unless the employment contract says otherwise. Pilots of TUI fly Belgium may fly Dutch production, provided Dutch pilots fly an equal volume of block hours on Belgian flights in the same calendar year.1
