In May 2023 the head of the Workers' Union of Kuwait Airways and Subsidiaries, Talal Al-Hajeri, told Kuwait Times that salaries of Kuwaiti employees did not exceed KD 800, while new foreign employees were given up to KD 4,000 plus KD 250 in road allowance. He named no job and no pay period, so these figures cannot be read as pilot pay. The union held a two-hour partial strike over low salaries and unpaid rewards, and the Chief Instructor of Pilots, Captain Mowaffaq Al-Maoud, warned there would be no flights the following week if demands were not met.
An earlier strike by Kuwaiti staff in October 2011 ended when, according to the union, the communications minister agreed to a 30 per cent pay rise, subject in part to approval by the Civil Service Commission. At the time about 2,000 of the airline's 5,000 employees were Kuwaiti.
