KALPA members walked out on 5 November 2022 in defiance of a court order, pressing for the reinstatement of provident fund contributions and back payment of salaries stopped during the pandemic. The airline put the cost at Sh300 million a day. The board said the grievances had begun with the suspension of the provident fund, the Ab Initio Loan fund and annual leave, and pointed to the resumption of full pay and ongoing payment of deferred pay.
On 7 November the airline withdrew from its collective agreement and recognition agreement with KALPA. The next day Judge Anna Mwaure of the Employment and Labour Relations Court ordered the pilots back to work and barred disciplinary action pending the case. Pilots returned on 9 November, after more than 300 flights had been cancelled, the transport minister said.
