How is Iberia pilot pay built up?
Pay at Iberia is set by the X collective agreement between Iberia and the Iberia section of the pilots' union SEPLA, published on 28 December 2022. Fixed pay includes the base salary, a seniority award, the guaranteed trip premium, two extra payments in July and December, a year end bonus, the captain or co-pilot premium and a supplementary bonus. Variable pay covers extra flight hours, night work and compensation for giving up days off. The trip premium is calculated monthly, and the guaranteed amount equals 70 hours at the base hourly rate. The agreement has levels from 11 up to 1D, and new pilots join at the bottom level, except experienced hires recruited through a dedicated campaign, who start at level 9.2
What does a new first officer at Iberia get?
In the 2025 tables, a first year pilot at level 11.1 has a base salary of EUR 1,216.94, a guaranteed trip premium of EUR 202.77, a productivity premium of EUR 90.13 and a supplementary bonus of EUR 55.03. In the second year (level 11.2) the guaranteed trip premium rises to EUR 492.96 and the productivity premium to EUR 273.14. Every co-pilot also receives a premium of EUR 167.78, and a senior co-pilot a bonus of EUR 324.30. The published tables do not state the pay period for these amounts. Pilots move up one level roughly every two years, and pilots on the long haul fleet are at least at level 9.12
What does an Iberia captain earn on top?
Captains receive a responsibility premium of EUR 2,751.68 on short and medium haul aircraft (group 1) and EUR 2,974.83 on long haul (group 2), plus a productivity premium of EUR 918.32, according to the 2025 tables, which do not state a pay period. At the top level 1D the guaranteed trip premium is EUR 4,641.82 and the supplementary bonus EUR 2,889.48. Upgrade courses are offered in order of seniority as co-pilot, the company then appoints captains from those who pass, level 8 is the minimum level on upgrade, and first commands are on group 1 aircraft. Moving from level 1 to 1A takes three years, from 1A to 1B five years and from 1B to 1C three years.12
Which allowances and benefits apply?
The meal allowance for trips away from base is a daily amount. In the 2025 tables it is EUR 139.08 for domestic trips and USD 179.17 or EUR 122.55 abroad, and a day off given up pays EUR 1,179.96 for a captain and EUR 807.35 for a co-pilot. The seniority award is 0.8 per cent of the base salary for every three years of service, up to 12 three year periods. Iberia and the pilot each pay 4.7 per cent into the flight social fund, and the company adds 7.9 per cent to the pilots' mutual fund on top of 1 per cent from each side. Pilots get 8 free reserved flight segments a year and unlimited standby tickets.12
Where do the negotiations with SEPLA stand?
The X agreement originally ran from 1 January 2022 to 31 December 2025. In August 2024 Iberia and SEPLA extended it until 2027, with extra pay linked to financial results, punctuality, customer satisfaction and productivity, and rosters sent at least fourteen days in advance. SEPLA pilots backed the extension with 75 per cent in favour on a turnout close to 90 per cent. On 9 March 2026 both sides signed the final 2025 tables: an EBIT margin of 18.8 per cent triggered a 2.5 per cent rise plus 1 per cent extra, 3.5 per cent of the pilot pay bill, paid back to 1 January 2025.1236
Do the tables apply to Iberia Express and Air Nostrum?
No. Iberia Express holds its own AOC and has its own working conditions, and Iberia has franchise agreements, at that time with Air Nostrum. Iberia Express pilots did not join the 2024 extension, so Iberia froze the growth of Iberia Express and the next four Airbus A320 aircraft went to Iberia itself.23
How does the Iberia cadet programme work?
Iberia opened the sixth edition of its cadet programme with FTEJerez in February 2026. Iberia funds approximately 50 per cent of the training cost interest free, and, if the programme conditions are met, Iberia aims to place cadets with an Iberia Group airline, at which point repayment begins. Applicants need a university degree, European nationality or a permanent Spanish work permit, at least B2 English and, if not Spanish, C2 Spanish. The third edition in 2023 was for 16 cadets, and 19 pilots from earlier editions had joined the airline.45
