How has EVA Air pilot pay changed?

In late December 2023 EVA Air announced that from 2024 pilots would receive a pay rise of between NT$11,000 and NT$20,000 depending on their position, against an average of NT$5,000 for ground staff and cabin crew; the report does not state the period. The agreement signed with the Taoyuan Union of Pilots in January 2024 added a further NT$13,500 a month for captains, NT$11,000 for senior first officers and NT$10,000 for first officers. The agreement also raised the highest pay step that first officers and senior first officers can reach through annual increments. In a statement in December 2023, EVA Air said monthly pay for captains had risen by nearly NT$100,000 between 2015 and 2023.1234

What bonuses and allowances do EVA Air pilots get?

In December 2023 EVA Air announced year-end bonuses averaging six months of pay for staff of the airline and its subsidiaries, which it called a record, plus a mid-year bonus in 2024 linked to earnings. For 2025, CNA reported that EVA Air would pay 6.5 months on average, a figure the airline did not confirm. In 2023 the airline raised its allowance for time spent at outstations by 10%, and it pledged to raise hotel allowances again in the first half of 2024.1356

What was the 2023 pay dispute about?

In December 2023 the union said pilot pay had been frozen from 2011 until the previous year, cutting real wages by more than 10%, before a rise of 1.5% to 2% in that previous year. EVA Air rejected this and said it had adjusted pay every year except 2021. After a strike vote the two sides reached a deal in January 2024, and the union agreed not to take action on the same issues until 31 May 2026. Under the deal, EVA Air no longer hires foreign pilots directly as captains unless there is a special operational need, and such hiring is reviewed by the Ministry of Labor and the civil aviation authority.124

How does this compare with pilot pay in Taiwan generally?

According to the Ministry of Labor occupational wage survey released in May 2026, airline pilots were the highest-paid occupation in Taiwan last year, with a monthly salary of NT$298,000. This is a national figure for the occupation, not EVA Air pay.7
