What the Wizz Air Pilot Academy offers

The Wizz Air Pilot Academy is an integrated programme for people with little or no flying experience. It takes you from zero hours to a CPL with ATPL theory credit, multi-engine and instrument ratings, APS MCC and advanced upset prevention and recovery training, with the opportunity to join Wizz Air as a first officer. Training runs at Trener Flight Academy in Nyiregyhaza, Hungary, full time on weekdays from 8:00 to 17:00, and you cannot study or work elsewhere during the course. It takes around 18 months, followed by 5 to 6 months of airline-specific training on the Airbus A320. Each course takes 20 to 25 cadets, and you can pick your start date within a year of being recruited. After the flight check for release you join Wizz Air as a first officer, and base preferences are considered although the final base depends on operational needs.12

What it costs and how the bond works

The ab initio course costs €61,460. The initial fee is €13,950, which covers the first phase of about five months, including part of the ATPL theory and around 20 flight hours. The remaining €47,510 is repaid only after you are released as a first officer: €520 a month for months 1 to 30, €897 for months 31 to 60 and €1,000 for months 61 to 65. If you stay with Wizz Air for five years, the last five instalments of €1,000 are waived. The academy page FAQ (checked 25 October 2026) says the first instalment is paid by bank transfer within 2 months after the course starting date and that the initial fee is fully paid before starting the programme, while the guidebook says you pay it upfront before commencing studies. The advanced training costs €40,000 and becomes a €25,000 bond repaid at €415 a month over five years through salary deductions if you stay with Wizz Air for five years; the guidebook's bond table lists APS MCC and the type rating. If you leave earlier, the remaining fee is repaid by you. For the ab initio course, remedial training, accommodation and travel are not included in the fee, and the ATPL exams take place at the local aviation authority, with travel and accommodation around them covered by the cadets. A suretyship agreement is signed with a person Wizz Air finds reasonably acceptable, such as a family member, who agrees to pay on your behalf if you cannot. It is signed in front of a contracted notary in the surety's country, and the signature cost is covered by the cadet or the surety. Earlier experience, for example a PPL, can credit up to 20 hours against the fee after an assessment flight, and the €13,950 initial fee is still paid in full.12

Who can apply and when

The academy page (checked 25 October 2026) lists nationality of eleven countries: Albania, Armenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Georgia, Hungary, North Macedonia, Poland, Romania and Serbia. The vacancy asks you to be based in, with an unrestricted right to live and work in, one of ten countries where Wizz Air has an operational base, and the guidebook's list includes Moldova. You need a high school degree, strong Maths and Physics, fluent English and the ability to swim 50 metres. The minimum age is 18; the FAQ adds that recruitment can take place at 17 if your high school degree is complete, with the course starting at 18. You do not need the medical at the recruitment event, only before enrolment, but the height check in Budapest is part of the event: candidates at or below 160 cm or at or above 190 cm test their reach in a training device. Start dates are 15 February 2027, 24 May 2027 and 11 October 2027. Each start date has its own Apply now button, and Wizz Air opens new assessment events continuously and emails you when seats open.123

The Budapest day

Stages 3 and 4 take place on one day at the Wizz Air Training Center in Budapest. The group exercise comes first. If you pass it, you continue to the personal interview the same day. Wizz Air does not cover travel or accommodation, so plan arrival the day before, arrive rested and dress formally, as the airline advises. After stages 1 and 2 you are invited to the next stages in the following months, so build your calendar around a possible invitation. The training centre has full-motion and fixed-base simulators and is used for Wizz Air's internal training and pilot recruitment events.21

Interview and group exercise

Wizz Air says the personal stages focus on your goals, motivation and dreams, and on why you want to be a pilot, while your teamwork, cooperation and communication skills are tested. The airline's advice is simple: come relaxed, well rested and formally dressed. Prepare three stories you can tell in about a minute each: why flying, a moment you worked in a team towards a shared goal, and a moment you explained something clearly under time pressure. Add one honest paragraph on why Wizz Air and a programme with repayment suits you. For the group exercise, treat the other candidates as colleagues: make room for quieter voices, summarise what has been agreed, and watch the clock. Listening well and building on others' ideas is visible, and it is the cooperation Wizz Air says it tests.1

Example items

Example item 1: mental arithmetic (written by our editors) An aircraft flies at a ground speed of 240 knots. How far does it travel in 15 minutes? Answer: 15 minutes is a quarter of an hour, so 240 divided by 4 gives 60 nautical miles. Work from the fraction of an hour and avoid converting everything to minutes. Example item 2: physics, kinematics (written by our editors) A trainer accelerates from rest at 2 m/s² for 8 seconds. How far does it travel? Answer: distance equals one half times acceleration times time squared, so 0.5 × 2 × 64 gives 64 metres. Wizz Air lists kinematics, forces, work and energy and electric circuits among its physics topics. Example item 3: visual memory (written by our editors) Memorise this sequence for ten seconds, then cover it: 7 3 9 1 4 8. Which digit was fourth, and what is the sum of the digits in positions 2 and 5? Answer: the fourth digit is 1, and positions 2 and 5 hold 3 and 4, which sum to 7. Build a habit of chunking: read the sequence as 739 and 148 rather than six separate digits.1
